Welcome to the UMRFA family; we are all so excited for you to join us. As the first and only housestaff union in Maryland, we are paving the way for residents and fellows at UMMC to receive pay and benefits befitting the work we do to care for our community. First thing to do is make sure you sign up to become a union member! Our union is only as strong as our members—being a member will add to our collective strength, help us stand up to UMMC, and allow you to have a say in what we do with this power.
Once you’re a member, we’d love to have you get more involved in our union. If that sounds like something you’d like, you can learn all about getting involved with UMRFA here! We also encourage all of our members to review our Union Contract and Constitution so you know your rights as a housestaff member and what you are entitled to under our contract so you can reach out to us if you feel something is wrong. If you encounter a situation where disciplinary action is taken against you or where you feel UMMC or your program has violated a written policy or some aspect of our contract…head over to our grievance page!
